Halse is a very pretty village with several thatched cottages on the main street. Everywhere was neat and tidy, and even gardens that were not open to the public were well cared for - not a weed in sight!

The open gardens were lovely and there was such variety - cottage gardens crammed with old-fashioned flowers, more formal courtyard gardens, larger properties with lawns and floral borders, and larger still with a croquet lawn or a tennis court - all very attractive.

...continued on our garden tour, taking time out to enjoy a very nice cream tea available at another open garden. Super home-made scones...

...What a delightful afternoon. I always enjoy being nosey and seeing other people's gardens... the village gardens are always very attractive, and excellent value for money, and there was the added bonus of meeting up with old friends.

A dozen gardens in Halse were open to the public again on the weekend of 18-19 June 2005.

Halse is near Taunton in Somerset, situated just off the A358 Taunton to Minehead road. For a map and directions to Halse please click here

Excellent cream teas, assorted homemade cakes, tea and coffee were available.

Tickets were just £3.50 per day, or £5 the weekend, with proceeds going to St James’ Church Halse.

There is a preview here - well actually a 'post-view' from the last event in 2003. I have put some photos from the event in gallery 2, gallery 3 and gallery 4.

Hopefully if you attended they will bring back some of the splendour - if not, perhaps they will whet your appetite for the event in 2007! If you have any photos, why not email them to us at church@halsevillage.org.uk? We will endeavour to put them on the website.
