Halse as a Saxon Manor, the property of one Ailward, who owned the Manor Mill, and lived in the adjoining house, long ago demolished in favour of a late Tudor farm. The only existing Document of this period in regard to Halse is the mention of the Parish Boundary between Halse and Bishops Lydeard  “Upon strem to Gosfordu” (Goose ford) now Water Lane. “Upon strem to Stauforda”.
