176EdithJones6.tif - The Knights Templars. A.D. 1200 – 1312. Suddenly, in the midst of a quiet little Parish, there appear The Templars, who establish themselves on a lone mound outside the old Parish Boundaries, having forest and marsh at their back. They fortify themselves in, and establish a road to Ash Priors in spite of the protests of the Augustinan canons at Ash Priory. The house of the Templars was known as a Commandery, and it continued undisturbed until they were put under Excommunication by the Pope, the Commandery was dissolved, and their house and land given to the Hospitallers, by whom it was added to the Parish and Manor of Halse.
