173pen&inkChurch.tif - Halse Church: Tudor Period AD 1400-1550. On the accession of Henry VII to the throne, the King sent great sums of money to the West of England as a mark of gratitude for their steady support of the Lancastrian cause in the Wars of the Roses. This enabled a great impetus to be given to church building, and in this Parish of Halse the north aisle and carved screen were added to the Church. The N.E. Tower was removed and a larger tower erected at the West End, in which a peal of bells was hung. F.J. Montgomery. Illustration by Edith A. Jones Fecit. 1931
