  115CharlesHancockthanks.tif - Memorial sheet for Charles Hancock funeral service – 18th March 1998. Newspaper Cutting: As reported in the Somerset County Gazette April 10 1988 Obituary for Mr. R.C. Hancock:The death took place at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton on March 11th, of Mr. Richard Charles (Charlie) Hancock, of Halse, aged 86. Born in Halse in 1911, he lived virtually all his life there. Mr. Hancock spent the war years serving with the Royal Artillery. A professional gardener, he began his career at Halse Manor as an apprentice and progressed to Sandhill Park to become head gardener until his retirement in 1977.A keen cricketer, playing for the local team until his 50s, and latterly a supporter of Fitzhead CC, he also enjoyed bellringing and many other local activities and countryside pursuits. He was a competitor at local flower shows and his expertise for judging at local events was much in demand.Married to Win for 65 years, Mr. Hancock was father to Donald, Diann and David, grandfather to Caroline, Maurice, Darren, Laurence, Ginnette and Rosalyn and great grandfather of Paige.The funeral service at St.James’ Church, Halse was conducted by the Rev. Andrew Norris, and was followed by burial in the churchyard.Mourners: Mrs. W. Hancock (widow); Donald Hancock (son) and Pauline; David and Anne Hancock (son and daughter-in-law); Diann and Bernard Burns (son-in-law and daughter); Maurice and Heather, Darren and Sharon, Laurence and Sasha, Caroline, Ginnette and Nathan, Rosalyn (grandchildren; Richard and Jean Lee (nephew and niece); Susan Reece, Mrs. Violet Crews (cousins).There was a large congregation.Flowers: There were floral tributes from his loving wife, Win and his loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and friends and neighbours, far too numerous to mention. Donations in his memory are being made for The British Heart Foundation and may be sent c/o the funeral directors, Taunton Funeral Service, 55 Bridge Street, Taunton.The family of the late Charlie Hancock wish to express their sincere  thanks to everyone who kindly attended the funeral service. Also for all the messages of sympathy, flowers and donations sent in memory of Charlie. Special thanks from Win for all the help and continued support of her friends and neighbours.Grateful thanks to the Vicar of Halse and Milverton, the Rev.
